Sperm examination tests

In the science of andrology, the number, motility and normal shape of sperms are the main conditions for male fertility.

The first step to diagnose male infertility is a general examination. If the cause of infertility is not determined, more specific tests are needed, which include:

S/A:

It is a semen analysis that checks the number of sperms in a man’s semen. Also, the shape and motility of sperms are examined in this experiment.
The sperm count should be above 15 million per milliliter of semen and above 39 million per ejaculation.
Lower than this value reduces the probability of male fertility.

SCMA:

With this method, the maturity of the sperms in terms of whether they have completed their cell divisions or not; They evaluate In this test, immature sperm should not be more than 30%.

SDFI:

The amount of chromosomal breakage of sperms is checked in this test. If this amount includes more than 30% of sperms, it reduces the probability of men’s fertility or leads to abortion in the first trimester, as well as the failure of the IVF process.

Survival:

This test shows the viability of sperms within 24 hours in the culture medium. This amount should be above 70%, which means that after 24 hours, at least 70% of the sperms should be alive.

Vitality:

It shows the viability of sperms. This test helps to express the number of sperms that are alive as a percentage (that is, how many sperms are alive and fertile).
Some sperms look dead because they don’t move, but with the help of this test, you can also analyze the vitality of immobile sperms.

Diff Quick :

One of the most important tests that examines the shape of sperms with the help of coloring (this test is recommended for a more accurate evaluation of the shape of sperms). This value should be 4% or higher.

Peroxide test :

This test shows the level of infection in the semen. The presence of infection is considered another factor of male infertility, and despite this test and its evaluation, this amount can be reported in the semen.
